Financial Literacy in Elementary

Recently Société GRICS responded to an offer of financial support by the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) to develop learning resources to help elementary-level students establish the foundations of sound personal financial skills.

You will find in this document twelve integrated learning activities, four per elementary cycle. They are integrated because they promote the QEP subject-specific competencies in the following areas: Français langue d’enseignement, Mathematics, English Language Arts, Arts (Visual Arts & Drama) and Science.

They are available in French and in English.

These learning activities will help students develop their understanding of:

  • The concepts of saving, spending, income, money, profit, planning a budget, barter and scarcity;
  • The difference between wants and needs;
  • The consequences of financial decisions, good or bad.

About the AMF

Autorité des marchés financiers The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is the body mandated by the Government of Québec to regulate the province's financial markets. The AMF also provides assistance to the general public as consumers of financial products and services.
